Your multi-column sort should be saved as long as you have edit access to the sheet.

No, the sorting will affect everything. The idea with this guide is that you want to sort by a single column first, then by another column. The whole dataset is sorted, not just the column.

Wow, that would be a disaster for a large spreadsheet. How would you ever get it back to the original state?

Comment on Google Sheets vs Excel – Which Is Better In 2025? by Kama https://spreadsheetpoint.com/excel-vs-google-sheets/#comment-17967 Mon, 16 Dec 2024 08:38:38 +0000 https://spreadsheetpoint.com/?p=2304#comment-17967 In reply to Jagannathan.

Thanks for that. I have used Excel for years and when I had to use Google Sheets at a recent placement, I struggled intensely. My manager claimed they had same functionality. They absolutely don’t. I wasted so much time YouTubing and Googling how to do basic things or where function keys/buttons were. The only thing I appreciated about Google Sheets was the ease of sharig and collaboration and auto-save. I believe the latter is also now available on Excel, but you have to activate it.
Thanks for highlighting the lack of sheet protection on Google Sheets. It was a function I used frequently in my line of work.
I’m still an Excel fan, but here to look for something with better collaboration and sharing option for personal use.

Great question. Yes, you can use =DIVIDE(A1, 12) and it should work just fine.

If i have a cell with a total but I want to divide it by 12 months, do i have to create a cell that says 12 for the function to work? Or can i =DIVIDE(Cell#/12) some how??

Comment on Google Sheets Conditional Formatting Based on Another Cell by jmarkus https://spreadsheetpoint.com/apply-conditional-formatting-based-on-another-cell-value-in-google-sheets/#comment-16627 Mon, 23 Sep 2024 11:17:01 +0000 https://spreadsheetpoint.com/?p=1587#comment-16627 In reply to Anke.

The dollar sign in that formula is already set up so you can click/drag it across the whole row. The “B” part will stay the same while the 2 or 3 will update as you drag it. So you don’t have to manually rewrite it.

e.g. if B2 mark red
if I understand correctly this would be
=$B2<$B3
but how do I expand to the whole row so I don't have to rewrite every cell ?
